GABRIEL APRIL-LALONDE
Gabriel is a PhD student in nutrition, under the supervision of Malek Batal. His research project focuses on responsible food consumption in Ecuador. Gabriel is interested in the dynamics between human nutrition and environmental, socioeconomic, and cultural circumstances, and gender and sexual identity. As part of his PhD, Gabriel published an article in the journal Sustainability and co-authored a chapter in the collective book Sustainable Food System Assessment: Lessons from Global Practice. He was able to discuss his research with the concerned population and members of the government in Ecuador, in addition to the scientific community and public health professionals internationally. Outside of his studies, Gabriel teaches courses and supervises interns in the Bachelor of Nutrition program at the Université de Montréal. He is involved with Cultivons Châteauguay, an organization he co-founded to fight food insecurity in his hometown and engage his fellow citizens in healthy and sustainable eating through urban agriculture. Fun fact, Gabriel is a double master, holding a master's degree in nutrition and a 5th dan in Taekwondo. He also enjoys playing music, dancing, gardening, cooking and good food!
