This 4-year maternal and infant health initiative in the Grand'Anse and South departments of Haiti was implemented by the Paul Gérin-Lajoie Foundation in collaboration with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), TRANSNUT of the nutrition department of the Université de Montréal, and the International Health Unit (USI), also of the Université de Montréal. It aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality in the communes of Anse d’Hainault, Les Irois, Moron, Roseaux and Corail in the department of Grand’Anse, and Camp-Perrin, Saint-Jean-du-Sud and Chantal in the South department. The project was funded by Global Affairs Canada.
During the project, mixed-method research was carried out to identify obstacles to breastfeeding, hygiene and food security, and to measure changes in maternal and child health and nutrition indicators.
