Following the resettlement of over 25,000 Syrian refugees in Canada from 2015 to 2016, this research project was led by Professor Hassanali Vatanparast in collaboration with several co-researchers from the Universities of Regina, Saskatchewan, Montreal and Ryerson in Canada, as well as local settlement agencies and refugee associations.

The objective of the study was to identify the most effective ways to improve food security among Syrian refugees in Canada. Mixed research methods (surveys and semi-structured interviews) were used to document and understand the underlying factors affecting food security among Syrian refugees that resettled in the provinces of Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec, in urban and rural settings.
