Since shrinkflation and skimpflation seem to have particularly affected ultra-processed foods, the Shop Smarter Eat Better awareness campaign, implemented by Équiterre in partnership with CIENS and Professor Maryse Côté-Hamel at Université Laval, aims to encourage Canadians to cook more to counter the pressures of inflation, shinkflation and skimpflation.
As part of this project, CIENS was asked to conduct a literature review of Canadians' diets (in French) in order to identify the most promising levers for a successful awareness campaign. We also compared the prices, salt, sugar and saturated fat content and greenhouse gas emissions of 10 Canada's Food Guide recipes and Shop Smarter Eat Better recipes to the ultra-processed foods that are replacing them. The results for each recipe are presented here. |
